McConaugheys: Godparents of the Star Princess

Princess Cruises officially welcomed its 17th cruise ship, Star Princess, during a ceremony at Port Everglades on November 13, 2025. In what the line’s president Gus Antorcha called an “evolution,” the ship was welcomed by godparents Matthew and Camila McConaughey, and christened by a “massive” bottle of the couple’s signature Pantalones Reposado tequila.

“Today, Star Princess will not only be entrusted to the care of a godmother, she will have a godfather, too, because a ship this extraordinary deserves double the blessing and double the celebration.” “To be a godfather and godmother of a ship is an honor and a unique one,” Matthew McConaughey said, his distinct Southern drawl instantly recognizable.

McConaughey said they were told they had been chosen because they represented a “nice combination” of elegance and energy, a “mirror image of what Star Princess is and what it was built to be.”

Inside Scoop
on the new
Star Princess

Princess Cruises has captured the attention of premium cruise clients with its stunning new Star Princess. Though launched in the Caribbean, the Star’s target destination is Alaska, after repositioning to California in May 2026. This is great news for West Coast cruisers.

The Star is categorized as Sphere class — named for its bulbous atrium and The Dome, a multi-level, glass domed venue that is an indoor/outdoor pool area by day. By night, it transforms into a entertainment space with a stage, DJ, and candlelight concerts.

The Princess Arena is the ship’s main in-the-round theater, hosting elevated productions.

The versatile Spellbound venue features sleight-of-hand magic and music from Magic Castle at Sea.

The primary triple-decker dining room is topped by The Sanctuary Restaurant for guests staying in Star’s upscale ship-within-a-ship Sanctuary Collection accommodations. In addition to regular favorites, there are new specialty restaurants: The Butcher’s Block by Dario and The Catch by Rudi. Love by Britto is an artist-inspired boutique dining room positioned high above the stern for delicate, romantic meals.

Star features an activity zone with a pickleball court, jogging track and a splash pad.
